Rastas and other religious peoples like to quote passages in the bible to justify the use of marijuana for meditation and even at times a way to get closer to (a) God.
I’m just curious what you all have to say about this.
Also for non-religious people as myself, how do you all feel about it?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with marijuana. It’s like drinking alcohol.
It’s a trivial amusement that people make too much of. There is nothing religious for or against it. People waste too much time getting stoned.
Its fine for people who want to use it but you should not become dependent on anything for spiritual experiences if thats what you are using it for.
It is able to make a person more introspective.
Thing that are confusing suddenly become clear.
It is relaxing and a great source of pain relief.
I’m sorry, I’m not religious. I just had to comment on your avatar pic. When I first came on yahoo answers (over 2 years ago) that’s the exact same pic I used to use. Love EG and I love The Gashlycrumb Tinies. I annoy my husband reading his stories and snorting with laughter.
Anyway, I am in favor of legalizing marijuana. There are medical benefits to it. It’s no worse for you than alcohol, nicotine, twinkies, and a whole host of other things (lots of things are far worse). As far as it being a mind altering drug, so are a lot of other things and we control them and tax them rather than just outlawing them. I think we should do the same with marijuana. Just my opinion.

This may sound wierd, but it’s true.
I am a hindu,(not very religious though, I’m not supposed to eat beef, but I eat hamburgers all the time). But there is a god called Shiva, and he smoked weed, and he is the patron god of Marijuana.
Talk about a kick @$$ god!!!!

I’m Atheist, but I personally enjoy it very much. I wouldn’t say I do it very often (maybe only a couple times per month), but I use it mostly to relax and just escape for a couple hours. I really only do it in smaller groups and don’t exactly use it for fun (I really don’t enjoy smoking it at parties and such).
However, I will say that it helped lead to my disbelief in (a) God. My friend and I would smoke it and quite often we’d end up talking about religion and spirituality. The more we talked, the more reasons I came up with not to believe in God. Those are my feelings on it.
Umm, as a Christian, I have this to say: Were I to accept the Creation mythos literally, I would have to believe that God created all plants on Earth for a purpose, which leads me to believe that weed gets people high because it meant to do so.
On another note, through the course of history, spanning various cultures, drugs have been used as a way to make contact with the Ultimate Being. I’m not going to assume to know whether God wants us toking or not, but I think things can be best summed up by saying, “Everything in moderation. “
