The life cycle of a can, written, written, shot and directed by me, Merrill Aldighieri, for Sesame Street. Interior design by Adolfo Sanchez, music by Frederick Reed.
I used a 16mm bolex camera to make the time-lapse photography in recycling plants. While filming, I uncovered an ironic situation… much of the materials recouperate from the recycling process were being bought by a shell company and dumped back into the environment again in a scheme to pressure the city to build another incinerator system.

@VJnumber1 thanks
@MoldytoasterMedia— OK, I checked out your channel, (FABulous) I see now that reasonable minds may differ on the subject. All joking aside, I waste so much water (and time) washing my garbage I do sometimes wonder if this is not a half brained solution, but I am half otter by nature and can’t resist any excuse to play in water.
Aluminum recycling is great, but other than that, recycling is no good.
The Paper one is on DailyMotion.
that’s pretty cool and ought to be shown in schools, when the cans are being melted is really epic
It’s not only a good campaign for recycling, but also to help reduce mining.
Yes. I filmed in a newspaper recycling plant in New Jersey and a recycling center in Greenwich Village, NYC. The girl and mother were my neighbors. The girl’s older brother and cousin appear in my music videos too. They were fun kids.
There is also the Paper one too. As I remember at the end, A Kid draws the recycle symbol.
Around 1991 I believe.
When did you make this?
